Scientific Hippo

Last month, I took a scientific field trip to downtown Washington, DC. Besides riding the Metro and stopping for snacks, I did some other really cool things!

I went to the National Geographic Museum in Explorer's Hall to see the frog exhibit. Some of them were bigger than I am! ...and I mean the real ones, not just the friendly looking statue.

After the frogs, I stopped for another snack, and then I went to visit my friend Albert outside the National Academy of Sciences.

The National Academy usually has some interesting artwork, concerts, and other exhibits that are open to the public. I particularly enjoyed Jill Greenberg's monkey portraits and the Camille Seaman's iceberg photos that I saw this time. There is also a lot of permanent artwork throughout the public areas of the building.

Caipirinha

What do you get when you let a hippo sip your caipirinha?

Strange hippo dreams.

Hippopotamobile

An artist in San Francisco has created a beautiful hippopotamobile. His patron is a clown from Houston who wanted to bring a little more joy to the world. What better way?

The transformation cost $20,000 and includes winking eyes and a waggling tail. Riding in the car is like being in a perpetual parade.

Grumpie Duckie

A Grumpie Duckie writes:

Quack! Mr. Potamus, I love your blog. It even makes a grumpy duck like me laugh when I read about your latest adventures. Quack, quack, quack! I hope you go on more exciting trips and post them!

Thanks, Mr. Duckie! Other Hippofans are welcome to share their photos too by way of Hippo's personal secretary, wagnerr@umich.edu.

Hungry, Hungry Hippo!

Now that it is spring and I can finally resume going on outdoor adventures, I get extra hungry! When I am out pretending to be a tourist, I like to stop at a street vendor to buy myself a hot dog with lots of stuff on it. I usually need a lot of extra napkins so I won't wipe my mouth on my scarf.

Of course, a hot dog requires something to wash it down with (by the way, I'm not on a "Diet." I just like Diet Coke). It also requires the most important meal of the day--DESSERT! Mmmmmmm. I'm getting hungry just writing about it. I need a snack.

A gentle hippo peers out from the cherry blossoms in Washington, DC.
