A Very Sad Hippo Still Loves You

Dear Hippo-fans,

I'm a very sad hippo right now, and sorry to tell you that Rick--my co-blogger and best friend in the world--passed away after a very long illness.

I haven't posted much lately, and I'm going to take a break from it again, but he made me promise to go back to having adventures and blogging about them when I'm ready.

I'm very grateful to have had the support of my hippo-fans through everything.  I know Rick was, too.

Hippo Cinco de Mayo

Hello Hippo Fans!  I'm still mostly on hiatus, trying to take good care of a sick member of the pod, but I wanted to surface to wish you all a hippo Cinco do Mayo!

I hope everyone enjoyed a nice meal and celebrated with a fiesta,

Even if a sneaky bunny stole your sombrero!

New Additions

We've had a few new additions to our hippo pod over the past few months. Please welcome:

Hiccup (purple) - A very supportive 'po. Rather timid, though. He gets the hiccups whenever he gets scared--which happens a lot.

Nancy (pink) - Met Hippo while waiting for a flight at Reagan National Airport. She has become close friends with Frankie, and they enjoy lighting up and wearing glow sticks on special occasions.

Ronnie (blue) - Came bearing a gift of jelly beans. Quick to smile and laugh at any opportunity (especially when he has eaten too much sugar--like in jelly beans).

...and just because they felt neglected lately, Hippo and Frankie want to say "hello again!"

We hope everyone had a Hippo Easter!

Hippo Friend

One of my loyal fans shared a photo of a rather irresistibly cute little hippo.  I think I even see a family resemblance with a certain blog-writing hippo!  This might be another hippo cousin...

The pod and I hope everyone had a good holiday season and got a hippopotamus for Christmas.  If not, hippos make good valentines, too.

Frankie's Christmas

Our friend Frankie sent along some photos from his Christmas celebrations:

Citrus boxes are a comfortable way to travel. They're nicely padded and smell so good.

Hello, Holly! She's hanging around the Christmas tree to catch a glimpse of Santa on Christmas Eve.

The first thing to inspect on Christmas morning is the stockings. Will all my favorite candies be inside?

Dear Hippo Claus,

All of the hippos in the pod have been very good hippos this year (especially me!). We baked you some cookies and left some candy canes for the reindeer.  If they aren't hungry right away, they can always hang them on their antlers to save for later.  Have you ever considered having a hippo help pull your sleigh?  Some hippos are very big and strong, and could probably help you finish all the cookies when you aren't hungry.

For Christmas, we would like some new hippo toys, some warm hippo sweaters, or whatever else you would like to bring.  Most of all, we want a hippopotamus for Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Santa! (and hippo fans!)
