Halloween Party

Hippo, Opie, Frankie, Squeaky, Flatopotamus, Grumpy Ducky, and a host of costumed acquaintances threw a wild Halloween party.

Opie won the prize for Best Costume. He looked so smart in his graduation cap that we kept mistaking him for Hippo all night!

Loukoumades

Hippo had a very exciting birthday party this year! Hundreds of people gathered at the Greek cathedral near his house. They played music, cooked gyros and souvlaki, and a nice man fried up a fresh batch of his favorite snack: loukoumades – Greek donut holes drenched in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon.

Later, Hippo tore into his birthday presents: a hippopotamus sports jersey, a really cool diving sub (we think we saw great uncle Happy playing with one in his pool), and a comfy flatopotamus for sitting on and keeping warm.

Benadryl

It can be hard work trying to raise a hippo. Sometimes you wake up on a Sunday morning to find a scene like this.

Hippo New Year!

Happy Hippo New Year, Everybody!!!

Even though I'm quite the party animal, I took a little time out to think about some New Year's resolutions. Here's my list:

1. I resolve to keep up my cute, adorable, and fuzzy exterior
2. I resolve to take good care of my humans
3. I resolve to encourage everyone to have a hippo friend!
4. I resolve to catch up on blogging about my 2008 adventures.
5. I resolve to blog about my 2009 adventures
6. I resolve to eat more cookies.

I think I can keep these resolutions--especially the cookie one. Anyone else have some resolutions (or cookies) to share?

Just one more from me:

7. I resolve to stay awake all the way through my next party!

Birthday

As Hippo mentioned on Cinco de Mayo, there's another reason to celebrate on that day: It's his birthday!

Hippo turned one year old, but he waited patiently for his human to get home before opening presents. His friend Grumpie Duckie helped to blow out the candle (and eat the cake).

Hippo was very happy with his presents: a coloring book, a cookie cutter, a snack dish, and new shorts.
